The ideal resting place
The bedroom probably ranks among the most important of rooms. We devote approximately one third of our lifetimes inside these four walls. If you are one of those people unable to close their eyes at night, the environment in which you sleep may be the culprit and it would be wise for you to take a look around and see what may be at the root of the trouble. Often the causes of sleep disturbances are right next to you.

Check around the proximity of your bed: Are you immediately struck by a sense of well-being in your sleeping environment? Do the influence of noise or light contribute to or detract from your sense of well-being? Are these influences soothing, or are these jarring? Is your bedroom untidy or cluttered? A messy room, a room with contents in disarray, excessive ambient temperature, the moon shining through the windowpanes, or slight intrusions of street sounds: All these things can inadvertently transform night time into daytime, keeping one sleepless until dawn breaks across the windowsill. Think over carefully which factors may negatively affect the quality of your nightly rest and try to systematically eliminate these things.
Disorder:
A messy bedroom communicates a feeling of unfulfilled obligations. Create order in your environment, clean up your room, since this radiates peace and serenity, to enable you to fall asleep with your conscience clean, and to help free your mind of worries and cares.
Noise:
Often it is sound which is robbing us of sleep. Street sounds are a fine example. Even if road noise or other minor sounds in the immediate sleeping environment do not appear as bothersome, these can, nevertheless, detract enormously from a good night’s sleep. Just grab a pair of ear plugs, why don’t you – You will see that these are capable once in a while of working miracles.
Partner:
A partner can be an intrusional factor, particularly, if sleep in unruly, vehemently tossing and turning or loudly snoring. A suggestion is separate mattresses, for example. Anyone suffering from the night noise created by a partner, may also wish to consider the option of sleeping in a different bedroom.
Room temperature:
The right room temperature is just as important. Above 23 degrees or below 12 degrees, one has no cause to wonder when eyes remain open. Prior to going to sleep, it is once again advisable to ensure for the presence of sufficient oxygen in the room.
Electronic equipment:
Television, stereo and computer should be banned from the bedroom, since these are reminders of daily activity.
These things, which can bother us, are often so easy to dispense with. Open your eyes to the factors which can create an ideal sleep environment – so that at night, you can close them better.
